How it runs

Five stages, and you know exactly where you are in them.

  1. 01

    Survey

We visit, measure, and look at what is actually there — substrate, moisture, movement, light. You get a written condition note whether or not you go ahead with us.

  2. 02

    Specification

A line-by-line specification with materials named, quantities stated and a programme attached. No provisional sums hiding the difficult parts.

  3. 03

    Samples

Every decorative finish is sampled on site, in your light, at a size large enough to judge. Nothing goes to full application before you have signed a board.

  4. 04

    Execution

One site manager, one labour team, weekly photographic progress. Protection goes down before tools come out and stays down until the last coat is cured.

  5. 05

    Handover

Joint snagging inspection, O&M pack, aftercare notes for each finish, and a 24-month defects period that we actually answer the phone during.

In their words

They found the original cornice profile under four layers of paint when two other contractors had told us it was gone. That is the difference between a decorator and a craftsman.

Eleanor Whitfield

Private client, Primrose Hill

Thirty-one weeks working around live guest floors and not one complaint reached the front desk. I have not been able to say that about a contractor before.

Marcus Reyes

Operations Director, hospitality group

The specification arrived priced line by line with no provisional sums. It made the tender comparison honest, and the final account landed within 1.8% of it.

Project Manager, Eastcheap House

Our app

UndertoneA colour game, and a workbench.

Half game, half tool. Short daily rounds measure how finely your own eye separates two colours — then the workbench answers in that measurement, so it can tell you which two greys you personally will not be able to tell apart on your wall.

App StoreiPhone and iPad · not yet released
Google PlayAndroid 8.0 and later · not yet released

Undertone is not released yet. These buttons will become links the day it is on the stores — we would rather show you a button that says so than one that leads nowhere.

  • It measures your eye, not an average one

Every round is a data point. After enough of them the app holds your own discrimination threshold, per hue region, instead of quoting a laboratory figure at you.

  • Light is half the colour

Every colour is shown under daylight, warm daylight, tungsten and fluorescent. Two paints that match in the shop can separate in the room, and the app shows you where.

  • It plans a real room

Surfaces, light, palette, reflectance, contrast and paint quantity — with the assumptions printed beside every figure.

  • Entirely offline

No account, no network, no telemetry, no advertising. Everything it knows about you stays on your phone.

Tell us about the room.

Send drawings, photographs or nothing at all. We will come and look, write up what we find, and price it honestly — with no obligation on either side.
